I told the sea about you

as the waves lap
at my ankles in reply…

I told the sea about you
whispering softly
as the waves lap
at my ankles in reply…
J. Belle

I ask the ocean
breathe in
taste the salt air
listen to the waves
crash upon the rocks
call out to the seabirds
the fish in the sea
sand beneath my feet
dampness of my dress
clinging to my body
squinting searching
the horizon
I need something
J. Belle

me, myself and I
collectively sigh
i don’t know, I say
me neither
I quietly whisper
to myself
J. Belle

there are moments
when I miss
how it felt
when your mind
sat near mine
that emptiness
is grief…
J. Belle

I am not willing
to give up
on the people
& world around me.
Instead
I choose
to dance
like no one
is watching
and love
like there is
no tomorrow.
J. Belle

it is the little things
100 beans
counted slowly
ground by hand
press & drip
froth & pour
a little heart
leaf or flower
it is warm
in my hands
as I pause…
the scent wafts
eyes close
corners of my mouth
curl upward
these are the things
that give me joy
in the moment
and hope
for the future.
J. Belle

there are
some things
and some people
that just simply
give me joy
a genuine smile
it’s a lovely feeling.
J. Belle

snow falls softly
on the surface
settles there
flake by flake
buffering the noise
within
my chin tilts
downward
my eyelids close
exhale…
resting without
a sound
snowflakes fall
flake by flake
all around me.
J. Belle

caress me softly
sweet breeze
upon my face
this one swollen tear
rolls slowly
gently
down my neck
Let the things
I can not control
flow through my hair
into the wind
behind me
Restoring calm
breathing in
the beauty
around me
J. Belle

When a lot of things
happen all at once
it’s best to pause
breathe
rest
