Sometimes
even the bravest
most beautiful hearts
lose their courage
then behave in
strange
unexpected ways
to conceal it.

I could feel
the warmth
of your shoulder,
hear the sound
of your voice.
We danced
in the rain
and we laughed
together
in the mud.
And for a moment
you were there
I felt such joy
a surge of creativity…
a dream flowed
from my mind
through my fingers…
I miss you.
J. Belle

There is
a little girl
that lives
inside of me.
No matter
how many times
I’m knocked down
or how hard I fall.
She somehow
finds a way
to get me to stand
brush off my knees.
She turns up the music
inside my mind
& shows me
how to dance again.
J. Belle

How is it
that the cruelest
silent voices
ring loudest
in the mind?
J. Belle

Shadow caresses
the edge of sorrow
Light trickles down
into the bowl of hope
Sip from the cup of life
really taste it
the sweet
and the bitter
filling your belly
with resilience.
J. Belle

pretend
to be brave
even when
you’re not.
J. Belle

The wind
was fierce
it blew
with such force
I could barely stand.
I lay down
in the grasses
while it howled
and thrashed
against me.
I called out
to the clouds
until my voice
ran hoarse
my mouth dry.
Invigorated
rejuvenated
and ready
for the long trek
home.
J. Belle

I can feel
the warm sun
through the wool
on my back,
the cool breeze
on my bare face,
taste the salty air
on my tongue.
I feel a refreshing
spray of water
each time I hear
a crashing wave.
I can feel the cold rock
and slick algae
beneath my feet.
I breathe
and exhale…
I am here.
J. Belle

parched
lips crusted
with dirt & sweat
back of her hand
swipes upward
past her brow
she sniffs
wincing
from dust & grime
the sun sets
chill across her back
voices in the distance
low soothing melody
fingers on string & key
she’s done
all she could
night has come.
J Belle

the sound
of the sea
lulls
calm
peaceful
warm
pause
lean inward
foreheads rest
together
toes dig
gently
into the sand
breathe
in unison
listen
to the low
vibration
to that
quiet joy
within.
