When you stand
in the sunlight
remember those
who sat with you
in the darkness.
J. Belle

her thumb
slowly sweeps
across his brow
a tear wells
in the corners
of their eye
her fingers curl
around his ear
her thumb slides
down his jaw
and neck.
bristles course
against the softness
of her touch.
sigh
a moment…
J. Belle

Close your eyes
gently slide your finger
down your forehead
along and under
your nose
across each lip
over your chin
slowly slowly
down your throat
neck and chest
breathe
smile to yourself
you are alive.
J. Belle

Sometimes
even the bravest
most beautiful hearts
lose their courage
then behave in
strange
unexpected ways
to conceal it.
J. Belle

I could feel
the warmth
of your shoulder,
hear the sound
of your voice.
We danced
in the rain
and we laughed
together
in the mud.
And for a moment
you were there
I felt such joy
a surge of creativity…
a dream flowed
from my mind
through my fingers…
I miss you.
J. Belle

How is it
that the cruelest
silent voices
ring loudest
in the mind?
J. Belle

Shadow caresses
the edge of sorrow
Light trickles down
into the bowl of hope
Sip from the cup of life
really taste it
the sweet
and the bitter
filling your belly
with resilience.
J. Belle

pretend
to be brave
even when
you’re not.
J. Belle

The wind
was fierce
it blew
with such force
I could barely stand.
I lay down
in the grasses
while it howled
and thrashed
against me.
I called out
to the clouds
until my voice
ran hoarse
my mouth dry.
Invigorated
rejuvenated
and ready
for the long trek
home.
J. Belle

I can feel
the warm sun
through the wool
on my back,
the cool breeze
on my bare face,
taste the salty air
on my tongue.
I feel a refreshing
spray of water
each time I hear
a crashing wave.
I can feel the cold rock
and slick algae
beneath my feet.
I breathe
and exhale…
I am here.
