Poetry – Simply

She crouched down

at the foot of the sea

ripples lapped

at her hemline

arms wrapped

around her knees

she whispered

softly

almost

to herself

but mostly

to the sea

never enough…

I am

simply

never enough

she grows weary

presses her chin

to her knees

lifts herself up

stands facing the waters

breathes in the salt air

turns

continues

walking along

the shoreline

waves caressing

her feet

her ankles

and calves

enough no longer

has value

I simply

am.
